DJ Fonar: «After that performance Sergey Obukhov invited us to perform at the "Klass" studio, in the "Orion" cinema-concert hall. A huge number of people passed through this venue; "Orion" raised a whole generation of real clubbers.
It was the classic version of a disco of that time. We worked in the format of an evening program, with performances by popular artists and a dance program. Legally it was all set up as a Komsomol cooperative, and the enterprise earned serious money. These were no longer the thirty notional roubles that got divided up among everyone, but quite normal sums. The takings were decent. True, the bar was alcohol-free, in full accordance with the party's policy.
The audience that came to "Orion" was demanding and had an excellent understanding of music. That's why the programs had to be changed often. Every month we changed about sixty percent of the programs' content, and the new hits went over an absolute treat.
It was there, precisely, that I met Borya Spider and Zhenya Fish, who often dropped by "Orion." They really liked our format, especially the Depeche Mode-themed festivals we regularly held. Borya frightened me a little at first. He had a strange way of coming up to the mixer and watching me with some kind of strange eyes. I couldn't understand at all what the matter actually was, but later it turned out that Spider was simply short-sighted. He and Zhenya also DJed, at some local discos, and we became quite close on that basis».
