1990 – Nevsky Prospekt and Lider (St. Petersburg)

«The real shock for everyone was the Petersburg disco Nevsky Prospekt. It was two grown men with ZZ Top-style beards who came up with the concept of a «disco of the future», a show with video elements. Back then on TV, on the program Vzglyad, they started airing the first music videos by groups like C&C Music Factory, S'Express and KLF. They'd grab that video off the TV, dub it onto VHS, and play it on the television sets through a VCR. They had an incredible amount of all kinds of equipment, and they were stars. Because back then the belief was that the more equipment you had, the cooler you were».
