February 9, 1995 - Human Softcore

"At the tail end of LSDance, in February 1995, Polyakov and I put together a real gamble, a big rave called Human Softcore at the GTsKZ "Rossiya" (the State Central Concert Hall "Russia"). It all started at the club Manhattan Express, where Polyakov and I were once having drinks. The talk turned to how everyone was throwing big parties - and how were we any worse. Polyakov suggested we not do things by halves and throw a party at "Rossiya".
The next day we put on our suits and turned up before the director of the GTsKZ. He named the rental fee. We started counting, and it turned out the party would cost us 18,500 dollars. By today's standards that's a perfectly normal budget, but back then that sum seemed astronomical. We pooled all our savings; Polyakov even borrowed some money. We got two thousand back.
The crowd didn't come; we badly miscalculated the entrance fee, made it too expensive. And then the security really conned us - they let people in past the box office. Afterwards we all fell out over that money and spent a long time licking our wounds."
