"This is the first "upscale" venue where they started playing on vinyl. Before that, vinyl was perceived as a raver's medium, an attribute of big venues. Jazz Cafe completely shattered that stereotype. In general, the club is remembered for its wild, laid-back atmosphere, utterly uncharacteristic of a club catering to a posh audience. It was cramped and stuffy, everyone jostled and stepped on each other's feet, but that didn't put anyone off".
