Oleg Odzho:
«I came to Moscow in 1989. There was absolutely nothing to do in the city at night — the only club open was "Solaris" in the "Cosmos" hotel. Mark Barry and I came up with the idea of throwing roving parties for expats, foreigners working in Moscow. I nipped over to London for turntables, and a year later we were already throwing some parties on the ship "Dmitry Furmanov", at the Railway Workers' Palace of Culture. That, by the way, was the first party with live performances: we invited "Moralny Kodeks", "Kvartal", Seryozha Voronov with Crossroadz. They certainly didn't fit the definition of "electronic music", but they definitely weren't pop either. Back then we were all a bit snobbish, and we couldn't stand all those Alena Apinas. But Mazaev and Voronov were our kind of guys, part of the scene.
The real club story began for me in 1991, in the little bar "Mercedes" at VDNKh, at the seventh Mercedes station. Its owner Sergey Maleev gathered a good crowd around himself, and all the clubbers of the day spent their time there, people from Bogdan Titomir's circle.
It was a small bar, where they'd sometimes clear one booth of all the chairs and tables, set up a DJ console there and I'd spin records. That's where I met Nuzhdin. Sasha at the time danced break-dance, danced quite well, but it clearly wasn't his calling. I told him that with such a sense of rhythm he'd make an excellent DJ. And so it turned out».
