A two-tone New Year's tree – necessarily to the right of the front door, a striped accessory or item of clothing, and several meat dishes on the festive table – such is the advice astrologers and feng shui experts give for ringing in the new year 2010 – the Year of the Tiger – by all the rules. We understand nothing about astrology, but we do know a thing or two about where the Tiger won't have to be bored that night… We offer a roundup of New Year's parties in various cities around the world.
So, at London's most famous club, Fabric, the New Year's celebration will unfold to dynamic sets from Craig Richards, Jesse Rose, Andrew Weatherall, Jamie Jones, Ivan Smagghe, Rub N Tug, Hot Chip member Joe Goddard and others. Entry – 40 New Year's pounds sterling. 31 December will glide seamlessly into 1 January, and behind the decks in two of the club's three rooms the DJ lineup will change: Stephan Bodzin, Marc Romboy, Martinez, Rui Da Silva, Mikki Most, Peter Pixzel, Cormac and others…
Rex Club is one of the very best dance venues in Paris. On 31 December it will host the One More New Year's party with an entirely French roster of artists, featuring club resident and legend of the French electronic scene Jennifer Cardini, as well as Mlle Caro, Molly, Inch. The entry ticket will cost around 20 euros. By the way, the next day – 1 January – Russian DJ Mike Spirit will perform at the Rex club at the Automatik party.
On New Year's night, 1,500 people will gather on the 2 dance floors of Amsterdam's Schram Studios club. Performances featuring aerial acrobats and light effects are being prepared for the guests. Performing: Billy Nasty, Function, Paer Grindvik, Jan Liefhebber, Len Faki, Tom Hades, Sandwell District, Regis, Octave One and others. The entry ticket price – 50 euros.
On the other side of the Atlantic, in New York, a secret party from the promo group Blkmarket will take place on 31 December, with DJ Koze, DJ Three, Markus Fix, Ryan Crosson, Taimur, Fahad and others taking part. At Sven Väth's Frankfurt residency – the Cocoon club – they plan to ring in 2010 amid the interiors of a spaceship designed by the Dutch design team Reach Visual. The night's musical program will be handled by: Sven Vath, Joris Voorn, Karotte, Nima Gorji, C-Rock, Stoopid. Entry – 25 euros.
If you prefer active ways of celebrating the New Year over watching New Year's TV shows while wolfing down sandwiches with red caviar, Berlin may well seem to you the best place for such a pastime. After the festive fireworks at the Brandenburg Gate at midnight, you can set off on a many-hour club marathon. Berghain/Panorama Bar is one of them. The strongest and most resilient Spaniards will gather on the morning of 1 January at Madrid's huge Telefonica Arena sports complex for the Space Of Sound festival, to continue celebrating the New Year 2010! 12 hours of music will be given to the guests by: Richie Hawtin, Gaiser, Fabrizio Maurizi, Ambivalent, JPLS, Sasha, Steve Lawler, Groove Armada, Dedmau5, Simon&Shaker and many others. The ticket price will be 100 euros.
The headliner of New Year's night at Moscow's Arma17 club will be DJ and producer Ricardo Villalobos! Also on the bill are Zip (Germany), Margaret Dygas (Poland), Masomenos (France), Rudolf (Argentina), Annushka, Spirit, Trapeznikov and others. As always, the club's owners will pay special attention to sound, light and various special effects. Guests gather at 22:00. The ticket price will be 1,000 rubles.
If you're heading to Japan for the New Year's holidays, don't miss the Countdown to 2010 party in Tokyo on 31 December. Here they'll count down the last minutes to the New Year to the music of Japanese DJ and composer Satoshi Tomiie. His set will be supported by Hector Romero, Radio Slave, dj ENDO, Yummy and others. The entry ticket will cost $57.
On the beautiful tropical island of Koh Tao, located in the Gulf of Siam in Thailand, the international New Year's trance-music festival The Experience will take place for the first time from 30 December to 1 January. It will be set up in the mountains at a place called My Space. In the lineup – representatives of the genre from various countries around the world: Scotty, Antaro, Sabaii Sabaii, Jacky, Note, Leung, Dj Delysid, Jonnie, Patt, R'Deem, Venus Vibes and many others. This year the Tusart festival is taking place in the picturesque fishing village of Mirissa on the shore of the Indian Ocean.
