On May 21st, the British band UNKLE returns to Moscow, opening the new Arena Moscow club with their concert. The group presents their fifth studio album, scheduled for release on May 10th. The recording features former Screaming Trees frontman and Queens of the Stone Age member Mark Lanegan, as well as the bands Autolux, Sleepy Sun, The Black Angels and others. In addition to their Moscow performance, UNKLE will visit Yekaterinburg on May 20th (Tele-Club) and St. Petersburg on May 22nd (GlavClub). 44100Hz: Емкий ответ. Тогда расскажи о вашем последнем альбоме Where Did The Night Fall. Сколько времени ушло на его запись? Чем он отличается от предыдущих работ?

: It's more oriented toward live performance, more organic. Essentially, the first proper album released in collaboration with Pablo Clements. Also, it probably has more of a feminine influence, a stronger groove. And a wider range of guest musicians—established and up-and-coming.

: I'm particularly proud of working with Mark Lanegan—simply because I've wanted to collaborate with him for a long time. All the musicians on this album have brought something special and individual to the project, and I'm grateful for that

J.L.: 'Healing' was the first track, and we finished the album after 'Ever Rest'.
44100Hz: Обычно заглавие альбома происходит из названия самой важной песни. У вас вышло по-другому. Что означает Where Did The Night Fall?

: We never follow that principle. 'Where Did The Night Fall' represents overcoming temptation, the end of sleepless nights, and the joy of day.

: Yes, today it's a logical PR move to keep up with the times. It's the same kind of promotion for new music as radio or television. We see only positives in it.

: For me, this image symbolizes fallen angels, the duality of sexuality, light and darkness, the beauty of the female form... The photo was taken by Warren du Prez and Nick Thornton Jones, graphic design by Ben Drury.
44100Hz: Ты общаешься с бывшими участниками группы: Richard File, DJ Shadow, другими? Что заставляло их уходить из UNKLE?

: Working in a large team is always complicated. Everyone wants to go their own way. The kids are sitting at home! Rock and roll is a dangerous game! So I've maintained warm relations with some former members, but there are others I'd rather not meet...

44100Hz: Вы часто приглашаете к сотрудничеству Ian Brown. По крайней мере, он уже дважды задействован в записи ваших альбомов. Может, пора уже сделать его участником группы?

: I've tried! No luck yet...
44100Hz: Ваши клипы всегда похожи на короткометражные фильмы, а иногда и мультипликацию (Eye For An Eye). Вы сами принимаете участие в их съемке или доверяете полностью режиссерам?

: It varies. Usually I try to participate as closely as possible.

: Hard to pick, but my favorites are probably 'Rabbit,' 'Eye For An Eye,' and 'Heaven'.

: Yes, it was fun, but honestly, I'm more drawn to writing my own compositions than remixing classical pieces.

: You're right... I love attending such performances. Moscow probably has many such musicians. I'd like to do a collaboration sometime, maybe...
