Vincent Vega and Bananas

Интервью · 28.03.2007

By Анна Лекс

When twenty people, holding hands, jump into the pool, drenching the expensive DJ rig and the DJ himself from head to toe, a spilled glass of whisky-cola for 20 euros no longer seems like such a big loss. Nor is it a shame about the days spent thousands of kilometres from home in the drunkest euphoria and with the most unfamiliar people on earth. In early March, under the rays of the scorching Egyptian sun, more than 300 people from every corner of Russia gathered to blaze through another week of their lives at a big club party - the travelling Club Paradise Tour! Clubbers, DJs, musicians, promoters, journalists and photographers danced all seven days, 24 hours a day non-stop - in the morning by the pool, in the daytime on yachts and beaches, at night at the discos and in the rooms. At one such party, when we had lost count of the days and hours, we met the well-known German DJ Vincent Vega with his charming girlfriend Ksyusha Rush (the vocals of the well-known provocative song "Na Aftapati"). In the most genial of moods, Vincent told us about "Russian-style holidaymaking".

Hi Vincent! What do you need in order to let loose at a summer resort to the fullest?

Cheerful dance music, of course, heat and lots and lots of beautiful chicks all around! Actually, here in Egypt I feel all the ingredients of an ideal summer holiday.

So how do you like what's going on?

Cool, I'm delighted. The parties are great. When we get together and head off to some club, we always blow it up; Russian DJs play excellent music, that atmosphere is impossible to convey. And all the more so the atmosphere of the poolside parties - it's amazing. The only thing is that the Club Paradise Tour didn't draw as many people as one would have liked, but even that's enough to let loose to the max. I'm sure that next year the club tour will gather twice as many people.

Have you already made friends with all the organisers and DJs? How have your relations turned out?

I have Russian DJ acquaintances, both from Moscow and from Saint Petersburg. We get on fine and have fun together. I watched how the Russian DJs play, and I was pleasantly surprised; the guys keep to international standards, play quality music and cope with it pretty well. I've also struck up good relations with the tour organisers. Not long ago there was a press conference here, at which I met the hotel owner (Domina Coral Bay - 44100hz note) and he gave the most positive feedback about our company of clubbers and suggested holding events like this every year, expanding the club tour to a thousand people at a time. It's a really good idea, because, despite the rumours going around about Russian people - that they're drunkards and troublemakers - I don't see that here. Even into the pool everyone falls in a civilised way!

Do you have a favourite Russian DJ or musician you listen to?

I met a Petersburg DJ here - Rinat Latif, we became very close. He'll probably be my favourite, all the more since we play almost the same music, of the same format so to speak, and in general we're alike, we behave the same way, like brothers. Of the Moscow DJs I'd like to mention Pasha Kirilov; we met somehow at one of the parties and became close friends, now we keep in touch, stay in contact. By the way, Pasha invited me to play at his birthday at the club Gorod, where I feel we're going to set it ablaze completely!

Where else are you planning to take part, perhaps you've been invited to some other Russian projects?

I'm already a superstar in Russia, I'm invited everywhere. Not long ago I took part in the MXTronica festival, where I performed my live show before the Underworld crew, and I plan to keep taking part in this festival. On 30 and 31 March there'll be another mega-party, MXTronica, where I'll perform together with Trentemoller and Omid 16b! I've also played twice at the Russian-Ukrainian festival KaZantip, and if I manage to fit it in with my tours and my work on Ibiza, then this year too I'll go to KaZantip.

And which electronic-music festival do you yourself like most of all?

For me the coolest has always been Love Parade, especially in 1997-99! Of course that's ancient history, but back then it was super, I took part in that festival many times myself... and now there are fewer stories like that. But nevertheless, the parties that thunder on Ibiza at clubs like Space, Pacha, Amnesia, El Divino and so on have no equal. Really cool festivals are also held all over Europe, there are loads of them, too many to list. Of the Russian ones - it's MXTronica, without a doubt!

And of the summer festivals, the ones with the sea, the sun, the chicks - which is your favourite?

Well, the Club Paradise Tour meets all my needs and desires...

P. S. It seems I forgot to ask Vincent the most important question of the interview - "Does he like bananas?"... but perhaps we'll leave that question open. After all, a person should have some mystery to them!
