You say «Sonar» - and the warm air of Barcelona, the sea, beach parties and new international acquaintances float up in your imagination…
Three sunny days from 17 to 19 June

Sonar is a city festival; for three days and three nights the whole city will turn into one festival venue, even if the parties are held under different banners: Sonar, anti-Sonar, off-Sonar… So, to avoid accidentally missing a performance that interests you, it won't hurt to check the pages of the city's club establishments on the eve of the event. A list of some clubs:
In Barcelona it's easy to satisfy your gastronomic desires thanks to the wide choice of fresh fruit, vegetables, seafood, appetising ice cream and desserts at every step. Don't deny yourself the pleasure of dropping into a couple of eateries too. Here are a few recommendations:
For lovers of Asian food, Placa Del Sol is a good fit. Vegetarians can be recommended Juicy Jones→. Ra→ – a restaurant behind the La Boqueria market with a summer terrace and an average bill of €9 for three courses. Cusines Santa-Caterina→ – located at the Santa Caterina market in the El Borne district. Here you can grab a bite of Asian, Mediterranean, Italian and vegetarian cuisine. El Quim de la Boqueria – a little spot in the middle of the main street Las Rambla at the La Boqueria market. You may have to wait in a queue, but it's worth it – many guests of this establishment agree that it serves the best spicy snacks to go with drinks – tapas – in the city, and for just €3 - €9. If the wait in the queue drags on, head to the neighbouring bar-restaurant Pinotxo on the same market square. The price-to-quality ratio here is roughly just as pleasant.
The name of Antonio Gaudí is connected with that unusual, at times surreal appearance of Barcelona for which the city is, in fact, famous. It's useless to describe it. You have to see it with your own eyes – the unfinished Sagrada Família cathedral, Park Güell, the amazing residential building Casa Batlló, the Passeig de Gràcia street… It's worth taking in the whole city by riding the «Blue Tram» - «Tibidabo Funicular» route up to Mount Tibidabo – this is the highest point of Barcelona, 500 m above sea level. On the mountain's slope there's an amusement park through which the characters in Woody Allen's film «Vicky Cristina Barcelona» stroll. On the mountain's summit stands the Temple of the Sacred Heart, crowned with a statue of Christ opening his arms to the world. You can also visit the largest stadium in Europe, the «home» of FC «Barcelona» - Nou Camp, the Museum of Contemporary Art MACBA→, the Picasso Museum→ and, of course, wander around the Barri Gòtic quarter next to La Rambla.
When planning a holiday in Barcelona, take a few points into account:
If you linger in the Catalan capital for another week after the festival, circle 24 June in your calendar in thick red – the fiesta of Saint John in Spain. The evening before Saint John's Day is a special Catholic holiday for the Spanish, marking the longest day of the year. What does Barcelona look like on the night of 23 June? Fountains of fizzing cava, fireworks, overflowing streets.
Tempted by the powerful line-up of Sonar's night programme, remember that for the especially inquisitive festival guests a daytime part has also been devised – don't be lazy about attending at least one of the lectures from the luminaries of the modern electronic scene and beyond. The list of participants is here.→
Getting tickets for Sonar won't be a problem: special box offices are scattered around the city, and tickets are also sold in Barcelona's large music shops (for example, FNAC Placa de Catalunya). However, the simplest way to get hold of a pass to the event is, of course, to «queue» for a couple of minutes in the virtual Sonar queue.→
