Black Sun Empire

Black Sun Empire - DJs/producers, a collective based in Utrecht, Netherlands. It was formed by Rene Verdult, Milan Heyboer, and his younger brother Micha Heyboer. They began writing music together in early 1993, but after experimenting with various styles, they found their musical direction around 1997, which led to the formation of Black Sun Empire. Influenced by releases from labels like No U Turn, Prototype, and Virus, drum'n'bass became their main preference. During this period, they made demos and sent them to all Dutch labels. This led to the release of Skin Deep and Voltage, in Rotterdam on the Piruh label in 1999. Their next release was Piruh003, which included The Silent and Bombrun which was led by DJ Esta. While these releases thrived, they felt they wanted more. CDs were sent out, this time to labels in the UK, after all, the home of drum'n'bass. The response was swift. DJ Trace immediately signed BLACK SUN EMPIRE to his massive label DSCI4. Their first release on DSCI4 was a remix of Mutationz. After that came Firing Squad and Radiation, released on Trace's album '23 degrees from vertical.' After this, BSE released a well-known EP on DSCI4, which included Smoke, Asphyxiation, Geiger, and 1-800 Contact. During this time, they also wrote remixes for SKC (Recharcher) and Technical Itch (Telekinetic) on Nerve and Penetration. As success came from all over the world, they decided it was time to launch their own label, BLACK SUN EMPIRE RECORDINGS. The first release came out in October 2002 and included two of their own tracks, 'The Rat' and 'B’Negative.' Always looking for new talent, they identified some very promising artists. 2004 was the year of their first full LP: 'Driving Insane,' with which the collective toured most of Europe, including inaccessible England. The album became the fastest-selling in the history of Nu Urban Music Distribution. Later, a label similar to BSErec was established, named Obsessions, created for promising artists such as Kemal, Sinthetix, and Noisia. In December 2005, BSE released their second LP on vinyl. A double CD will also be sold in February 2006. The guys are still currently promoting the LP, touring worldwide to support this great release. The double CD includes 3 collaborative tracks with Corrupt Souls, SKC, and Noisia, in addition to 5 of their own tracks. After completing the Cruel & Unusual tour, the guys are planning to collaborate with a constellation of magnificent d'n'b artists: Chris.SU, SKC, Noisia, Jade, Bad Robot, Calyx, Ill.skillz, Corrupt Souls, Vicious Circle, Optiv, Evol Intent.
