Mungolian Jet Set

Behind the Scandinavian freak-cabaret Mungolian Jet Set, drawing inspiration from Central Asian peoples, stand two Viking descendants: Paul Nyxus, well known in narrow circles as DJ Strangefruit, and Knut Sevick, a prominent Norwegian producer and sound engineer. The duo's musical space is quite diverse—like a solid '70s psychedelic group, they experiment with jazz (Paul worked with renowned Norwegian jazzmen before MJS), folk rock, balearic and disco, techno and electronics, while pursuing their goal of creating pop music with Eastern motifs. They constantly invite session musicians and friends, following the principle "the more, the merrier," and perform in costumes of Mongolian khans or aliens. Yet however eccentric their performances appear, their music—epic and experimental—sounds cheerful and very danceable. In late 2009, Mungolian Jet Set released an album on Smalltown Supersound, consisting mainly of remixes of artists including Lindstrom, Ost & Kjex, L.S.B., and They Came From The Stars. Paul and Knut approach remix culture with particular reverence, believing that serious remixing can express one's individuality.
