Nouvelle Vague

To create something refined and stylish, the French do not need to put in additional effort - they just need to remain themselves. A further confirmation of this popular opinion is the project of veterans of the French ambient/new wave scene – 'Nouvelle Vague'.

Working together since 1998, producers Marc Collin and Olivier Libaux invited eight charming female vocalists from all over the world to participate in the project: six Frenchwomen, a Brazilian and a New Yorker. The gentlemen equipped themselves with a guitar and keyboards.

'Nouvelle Vague' is, in their words, a bed relationship between bossa nova and new wave (new wave: nouvelle vague: new wave). The guys simply take their favorite compositions, strip them down to the very core, and then 'dress' them up according to their taste. The debut album of the collective was released in 2004. It sold more than 200,000 copies and received rave critical reviews. By the way, an additional touch to their image: the musicians really dislike computers and other digital technologies; their art director said, 'We cut each letter for the group name by hand. It’s a kind of kick in the butt to modernism.' In the spring of 2006, the album Bande a Part was released on The Perfect Kiss label, named after the eponymous film by new wave idol Jean-Luc Godard. This time, along with very sensual female voices, we also hear a male voice belonging to Caribbean singer Gerald Toto. In 2009, Nouvelle Vague released a new album 'Nouvelle Vague: 3'.
