A Guy Called Gerald headlines Faces & Laces afterparty

Immediately after the second day of the Faces & Laces exhibition, the official Faces & Laces Afterparty together with the VATA party will be held at the Mosproekt club. In addition to the members of the VATA music association themselves, DJ FStep and many others, this night the guest of honor from Manchester - A Guy Called Gerald - will play live on the MSPRKT stage! Meanwhile, the small Faces & Laces dance floor will be completely at the disposal of the main headliners of the artistic part of the event.
Unlike the previous two VATA parties, the upcoming evening will be dedicated to a more urban sound, as the key figure of the event will be electronic music pioneer A Guy Called Gerald.

 Gerald Simpson, a native of Manchester, was at the origins of the English rave movement. His name is directly connected with the era of acid house in Europe. Gerald is the link that connects Chicago house and Detroit techno with the English dance scene of the late 80s. He became the first English acid house producer. Together with Graham Massey and Martin Price, he founded the group 808 State and recorded with them the cult album Newbuild, which had a major influence on house music of the next generation.

 Later, he created a solo project, A Guy Called Gerald, and released his most famous single, Voodoo Ray, which became the anthem of the rave movement. In 1989, Voodoo Ray broke into the UK charts, which is a huge achievement for an instrumental track.

 After two acid house albums (Hot Lemonade and Automanikk), Simpson actively experimented with breakbeat. He has released a lot of releases, ranging from atmospheric drum and bass to trip-hop and downtempo. He has collaborated with such musicians as Frankie Knuckles, Goldie, Finley Quaye, Derrick May Herbie Hancock; did remixes for David Bowie, Lamb, Stone Roses, Black Uhuru, Can, Tricky, Roman Fluegel and The Orb; participated in a tour with New Order, Tricky and Bebel Gilberto.


With the new arrival of acid house in European clubs, Simpson returned to the dance floors. In 2005 he released the techno release Flo-Ride, and then launched a new project, Proto Acid. The musician returned to the classic acid sound, seasoning it with old school Detroit techno and tech house of the 2000s.
Gerald continues to release both new and old, previously unreleased tracks on A Guy Called Gerald Records, Sugoi and Protechshon.

On May 10, 2010, Gerald released his 13th Tronic Jazz album The Berlin Sessions on Laboratory Instinct, continuing the theme of his previous album Proto Acid / The Berlin Sessions from 2006. It is reported that unlike Proto Acid, which is a techno program, the Tronic Jazz album contains lighter tracks with a softer groove, which were created exclusively on analogue equipment.http://www.guycalledgerald.com/
