Have You Received DJ Rights?

The German National Association of Music Clubs and the Music Industry BDT im DEHOGA Bundesverband, together with the Ministry of Social Policy of Baden-Wurttemberg, are introducing an analogue of driver’s licenses - DJ rights. The first 200 licenses were issued in Stuttgart to those who completed courses and successfully passed a practical assignment and written exam. As officials stated, about 100 million people visit approximately 2500 clubs and discotheques in Germany each year, and a DJ must not only play interesting music but also do so correctly and be responsible for the health of the guests entrusted to him. Therefore, the profession of DJ should be certified just like the profession of, say, a cook or a bus driver. The seminar program covers three aspects that, as it turned out, a real DJ needs to know:
- physiological - how ears function, how sound affects them, what types of sound exist, etc.;
- technical - how equipment works, how sound propagates, etc.;
- legal - rights and responsibilities of club owners, event organizers, and the DJs themselves.
