The enchanting Acid Maria, as clear as the waters of the Isar River, began her DJ career on December 6, 1992. In a tiny club where she played her first set, there were 20 friends of the budding vinyl sorceress. Among them were highly respected techno personalities, such as DJ Hell. Given the small size of the venue, the club was packed to the brim, so Acid Maria's first performance was a full house. Understandably, the aspiring DJ immediately fell in love with it and never parted with her record bag.
Since then, Acid Maria has never stayed in one place. She is constantly on the move between Detroit and Cologne, Chicago and Helsinki, Minneapolis and Munich. For this, she was dubbed the unstoppable party queen.
It's hard to imagine, but Acid Maria has been on 20 international tours and visited more than 500 cities. The events where she plays can vary greatly in scale. It could be a small beach party with a narrow circle of acquaintances or a huge festival of German culture in Mexico, sponsored by the Goethe Cultural Center. There, Acid Maria performed in front of a crowd of 40,000.
Acid Maria's playing style and preferred genres change as often as the landscape outside her window. New ideas are sought everywhere. Acid Maria chooses what she finds new and interesting in that part of the globe and combines it with something even newer.
At different points in her career, Acid Maria collaborated with German electronic scene stars like Steve Bug, Gebruder Teichmann (Festplatten, WMF-Records), Markus Guntner (Ware). But her main ally is Electric Indigo, another German techno sorceress. Together, they founded the organization Female Pressure, aimed at helping female DJs not to get lost among the multitude of males.
Once, at one of Munich's most popular clubs, Electric Indigo and Acid Maria organized a set consisting solely of performances by female DJs. From Russia, the renowned pioneer of electro culture Lena Popova took part in it.
