Alex Smoke at the "Subelectronic: 2 Years" Party

Shanti presents a special party "Subelectronic: 2 Years" featuring its guest Alex Smoke. Alex Smoke is a young electronic artist from Glasgow, part of a generation of producers who blur the boundaries between minimal, techno, and electronics. This music can organically exist on the dance floor, but at the same time it claims for much more. Influenced by a multitude of styles - dub, electro, grime, latino, experimental pop - Alex creates deeply emotional music that is simultaneously mystical, melancholic, and inspiring. Alex has always been passionate about music; in early youth, he even sang in a church choir, and he plays the cello and piano. Just recently, he turned to electronic music and in 2004 landed on the Soma Records label, where he quickly gained an excellent reputation. The album "Incommunicado" shows the influences behind Smoke’s unique sound - artists like Matthew Dear and Ricardo Villalobos. As Alex himself says: "Music is my first love, so it made sense to try making it on a computer when the opportunity arose. I realized immediately that nothing was needed for this, except imagination and simple programs."
