B2: The Magnificent Genius Chilly Gonzales

Chilly Gonzales, despite his Latin American name, has nothing to do with sambas, rumbas, or the places where wild monkeys roam in the forests. He was born in Canada, where he spent his childhood and youth, realizing himself as a creative person for the first time. At the same time, Gonzales learned to play several instruments, tried his hand at journalism, as well as in production and promotion. At some point, he felt cramped in musically provincial Canada and moved to East Berlin, where he bought property for $5,000, becoming the owner of a ruined TV station, where he set up a recording studio to live in.
In Germany, Gonzales performs as a futuristic MC, creating unreal sound collages before the astonished audience. His professionalism in arrangement and performance, as well as his absolute freedom in any musical forms, is indeed as sophisticated as it seems recognizable within genre frameworks. Gonzales is the author of his own musical language, a demoralizing mix of hip-hop, French chanson, and synth-pop electro.
The musician himself comments on it: "When I play, it is 100% swimming freestyle."
After a while, Gonzales signed a contract with the independent Berlin record label Kitty-Yo, which deals with publishing unusual music of various genres. The debut Gonzales Uber Alles was declared the album of the new millennium by New Musical Express magazine, and each subsequent release of the Mighty Chilly (there are three to date) became a cultural phenomenon, a topic of debate among music connoisseurs and critics, with the musician himself earning the honorary title of the president of the Berlin underground. Multi-talented, cultivating the stage image of a mystical supervillain, a theater artist and performer, some sort of Tom Waits of Generation X, Gonzales does not create his own world as commonly done by cultural escapists, but communicates with reality in the harsh language of music and action. A crazy Jewish MC, enemy of music reviewers and journalists, ideologue of a new political force, master of sound contrasts, author of numerous soundtracks, writing under pseudonyms even for Hollywood. Besides his own projects, Gonzales collaborates with many remarkable artists (for example, D.J. Vadim) and is the godfather and caring guardian of the duo Peaches, whose recent performance at the B2 club compelled many to reevaluate their list of life values.
It is worth noting that in the upcoming tours in the capital, Gonzales will be accompanied by another representative of the Canadian diaspora at the Kitty-Yo label, the fascinating musician Taylor Savvy, whose first solo album was released earlier this year. Savvy's powerful funky grooves intertwine with pop music, creating something like a futuristic retro - ironic and playful. Critics see the uniqueness of Savvy in his ethnic roots - half Hungarian, half Canadian, Taylor is undoubtedly a unique actor and musician.
