Baghdad Batteries by The Orb

In September 2009, the release of The Orb's 17th album 'Baghdad Batteries' is planned. The new work will be part of the 'Orbsessions' series from the English label Malicious Damage. Despite the fact that the two previous LPs by The Orb consisted exclusively of old tracks and hits, 'Baghdad Batteries' includes only new material. The album was recorded in the Berlin studio of the long-time friend of the group and renowned musician Thomas Fehlman. Inspired by the archaeological find of the world's first battery, the musicians unanimously named the album 'Baghdad Batteries'. To note, the 'Baghdad Battery' is a mysterious Mesopotamian artifact, which, following Wilhelm König - the director of the National Museum of Iraq, is sometimes interpreted as ancient galvanic elements created 2000 years before the birth of Alessandro Volta. It is worth mentioning that 2009 brought a great loss to The Orb. At the age of 43, one of the group's members, Andy Hughes, passed away. Perhaps The Orb will dedicate the release of the new album to the memory of their colleague.
