Belgian Riot in Australia

Bennie Single, a member of the Riot In Belgium collective, spoke this week about their rapid rise in electro, new rave, and dance rock music and how, despite their name, they willingly base themselves in Australia to this day. "I've actually been to Belgium only once, and then I was almost arrested for rowdy behavior," confesses Bennie. "Although many people think we are from Belgium. There is even a Belgian branch on Myspace who think we're from there; they recently sent us a message thanking us for supporting their country," he chuckles. On their Myspace page, the duo (Bennie and former Cut Copy member Joel, aka DJ Belgium) describe themselves as 'proud parents' with some 'extra luggage,' although the musicians insist that their choice of sexual orientation as 'unsure' was not a deliberate marketing move. Bennie even emphasized that they are not particularly concerned that they might be added to the list of gay collectives on the rapidly growing homophobic site of Donni Davis. The musicians are preparing to release their fantastic single La Musique, which will soon be out on Relish Records by DJ Headman, and are planning a route for a world tour, although they have no plans to relocate. 'I think we'll stay here in Australia, but of course, we'll be traveling a lot both here and abroad,' says Bennie. 'If we decided to go to Europe, the first places we would go to would be Spain or Portugal... or Belgium.'
