Limitless King Britt

On July 15th, Saturday, King Britt will perform at Propaganda! It is hard to find a DJ or producer on the modern dance scene who has managed to overcome genre boundaries until you meet King Britt. A native of Philadelphia, he has found a way to avoid being limited to one music category by putting his creative efforts into creating deep house, hip-hop, broken beat, nu-jazz, funk, and afro-tech tracks. King started his DJ career in 1992 as part of Digable Planets - a Grammy-winning hip-hop quartet, while also performing as a house DJ. Two years later, he founded Sylk 130 - a group of top musicians and performers from Philadelphia (Ursula Rucker, Alma Horton, Alison Crockette, and others), who created the album When the Funk Hits the Fan in 1996 as a tribute to 70s funk, released by Sony. Following the first album, the second album Re-Members Only was released in 2001 on Six Degrees Records, dedicated to 80s dance music and was the result of King Britt's creative collaboration with Alison Moyet (Yaz), Martin Frye (ABC), and Grover Washington Jr. The eagerly anticipated final installment of the unfinished trilogy will be dedicated to, in the words of King Britt, the future of dance music. As a producer-remixer, King Britt managed to receive orders from Macy Gray, Tori Amos, Yoko Ono, Femi Kuti, Gamble and Huff, Curtis Mayfield, Everything But the Girl, Chic, and Edwin Star. In July 2002, King released the album Hidden Treasures under the pseudonym Scuba on the OM label - a collection of his remixes for 4hero, Fantastic Plastic Machine, Michelle Shaprow, and others. Around the same time, Cosmo Afrique was released on Karma Giraffe Records - a joint Afro-Tech album with Nigerian producer Oba Funke, featuring Wumni (Soul II Soul), Zap Mama, and Diva Blue. Despite his incredible studio and office work at his own creative company FiveSixMedia, King Britt tirelessly spins records in clubs on both hemispheres of our planet.
