Birthday Party of Steppin’Session’s. The celebration begins

The history of Steppin’Session’s began in the spring of 2001 at the club 'Respublika Bifiter' (now 'Ballantine's Bar') with the pure enthusiasm of three individuals: DJ Nu Steppaz, promoter Roman 'SMC' Paramonov, and one of the club's co-owners Sergey 'Lano'. Surprisingly, only a few people attended the first event, but by the second, there were already dozens. The initial attendees were mostly DJs and their friends, who eventually became the driving force behind Steppin’Session’s. Thursday was chosen as the day of fate not by chance. Due to the association of jungle (drum'n'bass) with youth, Thursdays, along with a strict age policy (21+), appealed to those studying or working. While this initially may have deterred some 'fans', it ultimately cultivated a loyal base of attendees. Despite its non-commercial stylistic foundation - with many associating 'broken beats' and drum'n'bass in particular as such - Steppin’Session’s parties stood out by focusing on a 'softer sound' initially - intelligent, liquid-funk, jazz’n’bass, artcore, 2step, and uk-garage. Many DJs, who are now proponents of the genre in Russia, became residents from the early days of the parties. Names like Electrosoul System, Arkady Air, Profit, Jazzman, Sky77, FM Device! & MC Gte, Altero, Novak, and Gormon - these figures, the backbone of the 'Russian broken rhythm', could be considered as the Moscow diapsora. In the specific subculture of drum'n'bass/breakbeat, SS parties carved out a niche previously unoccupied, as most similar events targeted a younger demographic (15-18), resulting in many eagerly waiting to join us.
