The club "City" continues to promote a new series of parties with quite rare music for the partying Moscow in the breakbeat and breaks format. The first guest was the highly regarded "breaks-man" Mark Pember, also known as Meat Katie. On the fourth of November, a member of the British trio The Breakfastaz will come to the second party of the series, conducted together with the St. Petersburg promoters In Beat We Trust. This young collective has already been recognized as the "Breakbeat Breakthrough of the Year" at the 2005 World Breakbeat Awards.
The Breakfastaz is a trio of guys from London (Fro, Gav, and Murph) who produce what is known as nu-skool breaks. This usually implies breakbeat with a straight kick, which just a couple of years ago was absolute nonsense, and around this type of break, purists of the unadulterated style held fierce debates on music internet forums. However, this year, such break tracks have started to be played by many celebrities, for example, Sasha, Sander Kleinenberg, or John Digweed, with the latter highlighting a special sublabel, Bedrock Breaks, under his label Bedrock. "They are the hottest guys on the breakbeat scene," lauds The Breakfastaz in the authoritative music tabloid DJ Magazine. "Although the past year has generally gone well for breaks, we’ve heard very few new names. However, there is one new name that firmly connects breaks and the last year - it is The Breakfastaz," echoes the magazine IDJ. Fro, Gav, and Murph have only been working together for a couple of years, but they have already released 17 successful releases on well-known breaks labels like Passenger and Mob, and have been put into heavy rotation by style giants - Plump DJs, The Freestylers, Meat Katie, Aquasky. The guys have toured in Spain and the USA, made the cover of IDJ magazine as "Players Of The Year 2004," and have already received their first award - "Breakbeat Breakthrough of the Year" (Best Breakthrough Act) at the 2005 Breakspoll World Breakbeat Awards. Additionally, the trio was nominated for the same award in the category "Best Producers." The future of The Breakfastaz also looks good: the guys are preparing to release a mix CD called "Breakspoll presents..." and are planning to record their first full album shortly.
