Björk presents her new project Biophilia

The new album by Icelandic singer Björk, set to be released in 2011, is a multimedia project aimed at "exploring the workings of sound in nature by investigating the infinite space of the universe from planetary systems to atomic structures."
To illustrate this concept better, Björk will completely redesign her website, for which every user will need to install Google Chrome or Safari applications to fully utilize 3D capabilities. So far, there is only an audio clip available where Björk discusses the physics of sound, talks about the Biophilia project, and explains how it continues the ideas of her last album Volta (2007).
The official press release states that Biophilia is a "multimedia project encompassing music, computer applications, internet technologies, installations, and live show capabilities." The album is known to have been created in collaboration with Apple, partially recorded on an iPad, and will be released as a series of applications. Thus, Björk's Biophilia will become the world's first album realized in the format of applications.
The world premiere of the new musical material will take place during a series of live concerts by the singer as part of the Manchester International Festival (Manchester International Festival), which will be held in England from June 30 to July 17. Björk will perform with unique musical groups such as the renowned Icelandic female choir. The music will be performed on exclusive, specially constructed instruments, including a custom-made organ capable of responding to digital signals, a hybrid gamelan (Indonesian musical instrument) and celeste (keyboard percussion instrument), and a 30-foot pendulum that uses the gravity of the earth to create musical patterns.
The official release date of the new album is yet unknown, but it seems we won't have to wait long...
