What is Karhunainen?

Finnish musician Sasu Ripatti is known under three names. Each of them is far from being the last in its field: atmospheric ambient from Vladislav Delay, glossy house Luomo, and rhythmic techno passages Uusitalo.
As part of the latter project, his new album traditionally named in his native language "Karhunainen" is released. It is a journey album that breathes with the chilling beauty of northern nature, ethnic mysticism, and a somewhat elusive, characteristic only for Scandinavians, light sadness. However, the gloomy mood in some tracks takes on quite a playful character.
The warm and voluminous sound of the album explains that it is entirely made on analog equipment. In some tracks, Sasu, a professional jazz drummer in the past, often refuses the drum machine and beats a whimsically twisting rhythm by hand on anything, even on his little daughter's toys.
The author also contributed to the album design. The 16-page booklet consists of photographs taken by him.
The album "Karhunainen" will be released on October 12 on the Huume label. Some tracks can be listened to on the project's Myspace page.
On September 15, Uusitalo will play in Moscow at the "Ikra" club. And on September 22, at the "Sounds like Suomi" event, Sasu Ripatti will perform in St. Petersburg already as Vladislav Delay.
