Wonders. New Art from London

"Wonders. New Art from London" is the second exhibition by Baibakov art projects, taking place from February 20 to April 5 at the exhibition space on the third floor of the former confectionery factory 'Red October.'

"Wonders. New Art from London" is a joint project by Maria Baibakova, Katya Sutton, and the invited curator Nick Hackworth, a London-based critic and gallerist. The exhibition will feature works by more than 20 renowned artists who currently hold a central place in London's art scene.

Specifically: Shezad Dawood, a star of the London art scene and a Pakistani artist who will participate in the 2009 Tate Triennale; Conrad Shawcross, known for his mechanical wooden sculpture installations and a future participant in the Third Moscow Biennale 2009; Idris Khan, an artist creating multilayered translucent images from texts, scores, and signs; Mustafa Hulusi, a participant in the Venice Biennale; Eloise Fornieles, an Argentine-origin artist known for her performances; Douglas White, a British artist who creates installations from the most unexpected, seemingly unnecessary discarded items; and Toby Ziegler, who will present one of his latest works, 'Resistance Equipment.'

The international lineup of the exhibition also includes Russia: one of the participants is Margarita Gluzberg, a Russian artist creating large-scale graphic works with colored pencils. Another artist with ties to Russia is Tim Braden, who spent several years studying the basics of art at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts. He mainly works with figurative art and will present an installation in Moscow using sketches on the theme of Russian ballet from the Mariinsky Theatre.

The exhibition space will be divided into different zones, each of which will feature 'wonders of contemporary art' embodied in works by individual groups of artists united by common aesthetic or conceptual ideas.

The exhibition organizers describe their project as follows: "Wonders. New Art from London" is a diversity of directions and styles, a captivating mix of 'feathers, petals, prickly fur, bared teeth, and wit,' which make up London's creative landscape today.
