Daniel Best is an extremely versatile personality. The owner and ideologist of the Berlin-based company Best Seven Records, he releases excellent music, plays as a DJ, organizes parties and large music festivals, acts as agent for Jazzanova, and helps them manage the entire huge organism called Sonar Kollektiv. Although his own label Best Seven Records was created back in the late 90s, there are relatively few releases in his discography today. But this is one of those cases where quality is much more important than quantity: each record is a true gem. Best has two main requirements for the releases on his label: the music must be "soulful & dubby." This can easily be understood by listening to, for example, the absolute classic 'Midnight Marauders' by the New Zealanders Joe Dukie and DJ Fitchie from the star project Fat Freddies Drop, whose album came out in Europe largely thanks to Daniel’s efforts. Among other celebrities in the Best Seven catalog, the dubstep king of Vienna Stereotyp, British broken beat master Domu, and even scene veteran Glenn "Bigga Bush", a member of the famous project Rockers Hi-Fi, have also left their mark. One of the latest discoveries of Best Seven is the Nordic beauty Eva Be, who composes delicious combinations of dub, jazz, and techno.
As a club promoter, Daniel founded the famous Jazzanova party 'Kaleidoscop' at the Berlin club WMF, assisted house label Innervisions owner Steffen Berkhahn (also known as Dixon) with his events 'Washing Machine', and held his own evenings called 'Escobar', which enjoyed consistently great success with the public for several consecutive years. For the past two years, Daniel has been organizing the Apollo Soul Festival in the Berlin opera theater Apollo Hall, where stars like Jamie Lidell, Fat Freddies Drop, Omar, Jhelisa, 5 Corners Quintet, Benny Sings, Jazzanova, and many others have performed.
Daniel admits that his career once began with Brazilian rhythms, funk, and jazz (by the way, he compiled the 'Polish Jazz' compilation for the JCR label), but later his love for reggae eventually took over. However, as a DJ, Best prefers complete freestyle – and regardless of style, one can be sure that it will only be the best records, pure 'Best'.
