The third party of the World Wide Clubbing series is dedicated to Hong Kong. Over the past twenty years, this city, located at the crossroads of the world, has evolved into a true metropolis, becoming one of the leading centers of club activity on the planet. The urban nightclubs of Hong Kong today feature the best DJs from Europe and America, attracting clubbers from all over the world to their shows. Representing Hong Kong in Moscow will be Danny Howells and Medicine 8. Emerging star of global dancefloors, Danny Howells is one of the trendiest house musicians on the planet. Within just a year, he managed to enter the international DJ elite, ranking 12th in the Top 100 DJs 2003 list. At first glance, Medicine 8 may seem like inexperienced newcomers - their debut album was released just a year ago. But in terms of hit numbers that have rocked global dancefloors, they can compete with many veterans. Their singles 'Capital Rocka' and 'Rock Music Pays Off' are staples in any respected DJ's set. Their music is admired by Carl Cox, John Carter, and Eric Morillo. One should listen to such authoritative figures... The World Wide Clubbing event with Danny Howells will take place on May 14, 2004 at The Warehouse (1 Skladnaya St. 6). Danny Howells only needed two years to enter the international DJ elite. In this time, he transformed from a 'promising disk jockey' into one of the most respected and authoritative house musicians on the planet. Danny Howells was born thirty-four years ago in Hastings, UK. He grew up in a very musical family, listening to everything from classical Bach and Beethoven to modern funk and soul. Danny stepped up to the decks at nineteen, taking up a residency at the local club The Crypt. However, it didn't take long for Howells to realize he had outgrown provincial discos. It took a couple of months to record demo tapes with mixes, but the effort paid off. One of these tapes landed in the hands of the powerful John Digweed, who immediately saw undeniable talent in the guy. Digweed made Danny an offer he couldn't refuse - to perform with him and the legendary Pete Tong at Bedrock parties. These shows were memorable, becoming a kind of ticket to life for Howells. Later, John Digweed admitted that he was struck by Howells' versatility. Danny could play all kinds of music - funky house, techno, and progressive. But in any of his sets, there was a unique style and the hand of a mature master. From the first beat, from the first record, you could tell it was Danny Howells behind the decks. His music selection was flawless. He didn't just mix records. He created his own 'brand,' ironically dubbed deepsexyfuturistictechfunkhouse. Danny Howells' career developed rapidly. London's Maximus, Nottingham's Renaissance, New York's Twilo - this is just a small list of legendary clubs that invited Danny as a resident. And everywhere he didn't disappoint the audience, blowing up dance floors with his positive and incredibly energetic sets. In New York, they still can't forget his ten-hour (!) performance at Arc club - eyewitnesses still remember the frenzy that prevailed on the dance floor at that moment. Alongside his club performances, Danny also did serious studio work. In 1999, he founded his own series Nocturnal Frequencies, warmly welcomed by the club audience. The success of these compilations allowed Howells to sign a contract with Global Underground. For this popular label, Danny made two discs - Nu Breed and the real bestseller of the summer of 2003, the first compilation of the 24/7 series. Today, the level of popularity of Danny Howells is hard to overestimate. Sometimes this 'Howellsmania' reaches comical heights - recently, the Dutch company Sweatyfrog even started producing rubber dolls with Danny's face. The trial batch of a thousand figurines has already sold out. So, what can we say about tickets to his performances, which sell like hotcakes?
