Domu, Umod, Sonar Circle, Bakura, Rima, Zoltar, Yotoko, Vaceo, Kudu – behind all these strange aliases and names hides the same person known in the world as Dominic Stanton or simply Domu. A DJ, musician, producer, and remix author – over the past few years, his name has become an integral part of the global future-jazz movement.
Having releases on iconic labels in recent years such as Sonar Kollektiv, Ninja Tune, Compost, or Good Looking, remixes for Jazzanova, Vikter Duplaix, Cinematic Orchestra, or Ennio Morricone, Domu today belongs to the royal family of the electronic underground. He debuted at the age of 17 - with space music beyond his years on the Reinforced label - not with anyone, but with 4 Hero themselves. And although the rapid career of the young man began with drum-n-bass, his musical interests quickly evolved into a more complex and eclectic direction. Today, Domu's activity flows simultaneously in several directions, and the multifaceted nature of his talent never ceases to amaze.
In 2004, the Berlin company Sonar Kollektiv released an album by Dominic under the alias Umod – it's like Domu reversed, anti-dance rhythms on the verge of hip-hop, IDM, and abstract electro-jazz. The label Especial, owned by Yoshihiro Okino from Kyoto Jazz Massive, releases records by Domu under the alias Bakura – in this guise, Dominic blends house, Brazilian rhythms, and funk. As Yotoko, he creates an interesting mix of techno and broken beats, under the alias Sonar Circle, he pays tribute to his drum-n-bass roots, and as Chaka Domu he composes dub and dancehall. In 2007, on the London label Papa Records, the album Domu presents Pete Simpson, made together with soul vocalist Pete Simpson, saw the light of day – a soulful house release that has already garnered admiration from DJing giants like Giles Peterson and Rainer Truby, unanimously calling the record a 'future classic'.
As a DJ, Domu has performed on several continents, playing in top clubs in London, Tokyo, Berlin, Milan, and Helsinki. A highly talented DJ, he combines in his sets a skillful technique and an intriguing musical selection that can satisfy even the most discerning skeptics.
