The series of parties "Suelectronics" at the "Shanti" club, permanently curated by DJ OnLee, celebrates its first anniversary. The guest of the fifth anniversary of events will be the Irishman Donnacha Costello, a master of euphoric morning performances, a client of the Force Inc. labels. and Mille Plateaux.
Donnacha Costello began creating his first compositions back in 1989, however, recognition and success came to him only almost ten years later. After finishing his studies, captivated by the ideas of classic minimalists Steve Reich and John Cage, Costello went from his native Dublin to New York for inspiration. There, the Irishman expands his musical horizons with the influence of dub and glitch experimentation. Returning to his homeland, Donnacha releases a couple of techno records on the modest D1 Recordings, and then creates his own label, Minimise, and enjoys immersing himself in creativity.
The Irishman does not limit himself to any boundaries, recording either laboratory glitchy ambient, or light and airy trance, or strict minimal techno. The talented newcomer will immediately be signed by two major German labels. His debut techno album was published on the Frankfurt label Force Inc., and a year later Mille Plateaux showed interest in Costello’s ambient incarnation. In September 2001, the disc "Together Is The New Alone" was released.
Fascinated by cold laboratory sounds, the Irishman recorded the record "Isol" for the Raster-Noton label, where he created collages of noise, electrical circuit humming and static crackling. However, having played enough with contemporary art, he quickly returns to dance music and publishes a whole series of releases on his native Minimise. Records in uniformly designed multi-colored sleeves end up in the bags of the best disc jockeys on the planet.
Costello's tracks are played by Steve Bug, Ricardo Villalobos, Magda, Luciano, Tiefschwarz and Richie Hawtin, and the composition "OK, That's Great, Start Over" along with Matthew Johnson's "Marionette" becomes a morning anthem for large venues. Thousands of spectators at the world's largest electronic festival Sonar greet the dawn under it.
The secret of Donnacha Costello's success lies in his rich musical erudition and ability to combine the best features of different musical eras in his sound. His compositions are characterized by both the rigor of modern minimal techno and the lightness of classic acid house, the warmth of Detroit vibrations and the euphoria of the first wave of German trance. His sound is modern and nostalgic at the same time.
Although Costello still prefers to self-release his own material, his compositions appear on numerous compilations. It's hard to name a modern techno label that doesn't feature at least one Costello track. Cocoon, Poker Flat, Kompakt, Soma, M_nus, Fabric - the list goes on and on. Most recently, the song "Black Bag Job 526" was included in his mix for the Global Underground label by the legendary Darren Emmerson, ex-member of the band Underworld.
