DSM Formation and their new album Jekyll / Hyde

In 2007, the Russian-Canadian trio DSM Formation released their long-awaited new release Jekyll / Hyde. Out of the 20 full compositions included in the album, the majority were written in 2004.

According to the project members, the concept of the new album was entirely created by the project leader Dmitry Meshcheryakov, who moved to Canada in 2000. Sketches conveying the mood of each composition were sent by Meshcheryakov to his Russian colleagues via the Internet. They, in turn, combined them with DSM's new sound to create an extraordinary palette of sounds for each track. Thus, for 4 years, the musicians pieced together the picture called moody house, based on tiny fragments.

The amount of work done by DSM Formation during the preparation of the new release can perhaps be compared to the colossal distance separating Russia and Canada. And its results should be appreciated not only by the group's fans but also by connoisseurs of well-tuned house music in high quality.

Jekyll / Hyde is an attempt to blend two different but somewhat similar dance cultures of Russia and Canada. It is an album-mood where sarcasm alternates with delight, and gloomy melancholy is replaced by bright joy. It is a musical oxymoron, a harmonious combination of opposites... The Jack and Hyde, Yin and Yang of the modern house scene, where DSM Formation perform as daring experimenters.
