Is Electroclash Alive?

At least that's what the creator of the movement and founder of the style, Larry Tee, claims. Being a resident at New York's Crobar, he is backing up his words with actions. This year, performers at the venue included Tiga, Trevor Jackson, Dmitri From Paris, Boy George, Chicken Lips, Dead Combo, Junior Sanchez, DJs Are Not Rockstars, Grandmaster Flash, Avenue D, Opti-Grab, Princess Julia, Tasty Tim, Opti-Grab, and Tommie Sunshine. Larry, famous for organizing music festivals, held the first Electroclash Festival in 2001, which gave rise to the very concept of 'electroclash,' a new style that gained many fans. This year, the Outsider Electronic Music Festival will take place on November 11 at Crobar in New York, featuring Whitey, The Glimmer Twins, Dead Combo, Larry Tee, Joost Van Bellen, The Glass, and Radio Slave. However, despite the optimistic statements, it is quite obvious that while in 2001 electroclash was a phenomenon for trendsetters and the bohemian crowd, the current festival is simply a big music party.
