On May 24, at the psychedelic restaurant in Goa (m. Lubyanka, Myasnitskaya St., 8/2, tel. 504-4031) and on May 25 at the oxygen cafe Shizlong, as part of the concert series "Ethnotronica," the DJ Sheb-i-Sabbakh (San Francisco) will perform.
A student of the legendary jazz trumpeter Don Cherry, an ethnic guru of the club scene in San Francisco and the world's leading ethnic DJ, Sheb-i-Sabbakh is at the foundation of the club movement as a whole. His DJ career will celebrate its 40th anniversary in two years.
For 14 years now, he has been consistently gathering crowds of fans every Tuesday at his parties in Nickie's club in San Francisco. With his unique sets, he has traveled all around the world. Many stars of Indian and Arabic music, as well as luminaries like Bill Laswell, have participated in the recording of Sheb-i-Sabbakh's discs.
The Ethnotronica concert series will introduce Moscow to new music based on the synthesis of ethnicity and electronica, traditional cultures and multimedia, East and West.
