Norman Jay was born in London and immersed himself in the musical world from a young age. At the age of eight, he bought his first record and played at his 10-year-old cousin's birthday. From that moment, his rise to global fame began.
In the late 70s, he traveled to New York, where he worked side by side with vinyl masters such as Frankie Knuckles, David Morales, and Louie Vega. After returning to London, he decided to take things seriously and began working at the Notting Hill carnival, which led to widespread love. Soon, he organized the first pirate broadcast of Kiss FM, gathering names like Jazzie B, Danny Rampling, and Gilles Peterson around him. Shortly thereafter, he was joined by Norman's young protégé - Judge Jules.
Together with Jules, Norman organized the first underground parties in abandoned warehouses, anticipating the acid house explosion by several years.
On September 1, 1990, he hosted the first official broadcast of Kiss 100, and shortly thereafter organized the first London club playing garage - High on Hope, where musicians such as Tony Humphries, Marshall Jefferson, Blaze, and Adeva performed. Additionally, disco divas Jocelyn Brown, Chaka Khan, and En Vogue frequently performed there.
Soon, together with his long-time friend Gilles Peterson, he created a new label Talking Loud and began touring extensively around the world. He also became a favorite of the glamorous public, performing at parties for Mick Jagger, Robert de Niro, George Michael, Prince, Bruce Springsteen, etc., as well as at fashion shows for Vivienne Westwood, Gaultier, and Tommy Hilfiger.
Playing disco, funky house, old school funk, and jazzy hip-hop, Norman Jay is now a legend of global dance culture. As recognition of his achievements, he is the first DJ to receive the Order of the British Empire for "services to music and DJing". This happened in 2002 and was a sensation in the electronic world.
Norman Jay is visiting Russia for the first time at the invitation of the Fabrique club to showcase his fantastic skill and as part of a series of performances by global superstars, initiated by Felix da Housecat, Norman Jay, and continued in the fall by Roger Sanchez and Armand Van Helden.
