Festival News from Helsinki Coming Soon to Ikra

A good tradition thrives: every year, a whole contingent of the most relevant musicians from mysterious Suomi goes to Moscow to 'Ikra' for the News from Helsinki festival. The next issue of the regular messenger 'Helsinki News' will be released at the end of September - as usual, the festival will stretch over two days - September 29 and 30; as usual, music will be available for every taste and every occasion. On the first day, Finland will be represented by the legendary songwriter Ismo Alanko, who is something like the Suomi version of Boris Grebenshchikov, having played punk rock, reggae, and synth during his long life, invariably showcasing tact, skill, and restraint in any genre; a loud, lively, and honest alternative band Lapko – the main contenders nipping at the heels of their compatriots Poets of the Fall, stadium-level rockers of the highest order. The main hero of the second day – always a welcome guest in Moscow, forward-thinking electronic abstract artist Vladislav Delay (also known as Sasu Ripatti, also known as Luomo) will have a Russian premiere of his current project album Sistol. Delay introduces a whole lineup of new fascinating artists – including Lau Nau, a composer of magical semi-acoustic songs from the psych-folk label Fonal, and the cheerful ska-reggae division Capital Beat, and the idols of girls' dreams, the convincing dream-pop band French Films, and finally, perhaps, the main enigma of Finland in recent years – the mysterious Emily Chidzer, hiding behind the alias Vuk; her exquisite cabaret-pop metamorphoses into shamanic rituals.
