The unique open-air film festival Empire Open Cinema will be held in the summer of 2009 in Moscow and St. Petersburg. The program includes exclusive films from Japan, France, Belgium, Germany, Spain, Portugal, which have not yet been released in Russia. \nIn Moscow, film screenings will be held from July 2 to July 30 twice a week (Thursday - premiere, Tuesday - repeat) in the Muzeon art park (Krymsky Val, 10,www.muzeon.ru%TXT_ARROW%). In St. Petersburg - from August 16 to September 13 (Sunday - premiere, Wednesday - repeat) at the recently opened summer project "Swallow" (University Embankment, Mendeleevskaya Line section,www.s-11.ru/lastochka%TXT_ARROW%) - a new summer project from the creators of the Moscow Solyanka. \nThe festival will open with the cartoon “Ponyo on a Cliff” (Gake no ue no Ponyo) from Japanese director Hayao Miyazaki. Next will be shown the film “Everything Goes According to Plan” (Frei nach plan; Germany, 2007), directed by Franziska Mielecki. The film is a winner of the German Film Awards ("Best Supporting Actress") and the Shanghai Film Festival 2007 ("Best Film" and "Best Actress" for four busy actresses). Also on the festival program is the Spanish thriller “Three Days” (Tres dias; Spain, 2008), the feature debut of Javier Gutierrez. National Goya Award for "Best Sound" and four awards at the Malaga Film Festival. The next number is the black comedy "Rumba" (Rumba; France - Belgium, 2008). Directors Dominique Abel and Fiona Gordon star in the lead roles themselves. The film did not go unnoticed at Cannes Film Critics Week last year.
