Franklin De Costa at Podval

An American by origin, the father-founder of Frankfurt techno, Franklin De Costa began his musical career as a drummer, but in the early 90s, the emerging electronic sound caught his attention and talent. A meeting with musician Patrick Vauillaume, who was actively releasing his own tracks on the legendary 303 Nation label at that time, and sound engineer Stelios Sevdalis led Franklin to work in the studio, resulting in four joint releases on the Fusion Records label. In 1997, under the name Tichy, Franklin De Costa collaborated with the labels Propaganda, Triebtater, and Fieber. Deciding to produce more studio music, he released it under his own name - Franklin De Costa. His first solo release on the popular Cologne label Trapez ltd, 'The Call', combines two completely different tracks. On one hand, 'The Call' is an embodiment of monumental techno studio experience and sound experimentation, an affinity for Porter Ricks and club direction, while on the other hand, the track 'Robert Bass' is fresh and transparent in the character of techno pioneers like LFO, Wolfgang Voigt, or Kraftwerk. Thanks to new, enhanced techniques, his second release on Trapez became even more progressive. It's like if Herbert's rhythm merged with Brinkmann's style, Monolake's consistency, Krikor's anarchy combined with the long history of Frankfurt techno by De Costa. The result is a hypnotic journey into the world of sound, which you can experience at the Techno-Pub Podval on February 23rd.
