Function - Guest at Reflection

On October 9, the German guest David Summer, better known as Function - a hero of the American techno underground - will perform at the Shanti club. His career began in New York in the mid-nineties: for young David, the inspiration came from Jeff Mills' sets at the Limelight club, and his breakthrough came from another techno guru, Damon Wild. In 1996, Damon signed him to his own label Synewave, and this fact alone elevates Function to the pantheon of living classics. Summer's tracks can be heard in the sets and CD mixes of artists such as Advent, Ben Sims, Chris Liebing, and Damon Wild. In the 2000s, David moved from New York to Berlin, yet he did not deviate from the principles of hard-rooted American techno. The sound of Function's later records can be compared to the classic works of Plastikman. To promote this sound, Summer also founded his own label Sandwell District, which quickly became one of Europe’s most cutting-edge techno venues. Joining the German will be the elite of domestic techno experimenters: Killahertz will perform a live program, while DJ Dolshchik, an enthusiast of dub vibrations, and the esteemed DJ Vasily Magic B will take over the turntables.
