Gatecrasher was founded in 1993. Today, GC is one of the most outstanding and influential dance clubs in the UK. Being a recognizable, respected youth and cultural brand, Gatecrasher has changed the face of club culture worldwide.
Gatecrasher started as a one-off party at Engine House in West Midlands in 1993 and has since created a worldwide reputation as a vibrant and unique regular party.
Starting from small, Gatecrasher continued to organize several parties across the country before establishing The Republic Nightclub in Sheffield in March 97.
Located on the land of "Old Roper & Wreaks Steelworks," The Republic club still retains some elements of its industrial heritage. Since Gatecrasher Organization purchased the club in March 1998, it has undergone two renovations to meet customer demands and remain competitive in its industry.
Gatecrasher is always characterized by innovative technological solutions. The outstanding Opus Audio System, 50 lighting devices, full-color lasers, projection systems, and many plasma screens for displaying video images and direct Internet broadcasting. These components have shaped The Republic into an interactive and modern club looking towards the future. Gatecrasher has also organized several of the largest capacity parties throughout the UK: Leeds, Cardiff, Milton Keynes, Glasgow, Dublin, and Birmingham, just to name a few.
One of the revolutionary events in club culture occurred at Lotherton Hall in Leeds in 1999. 10,000 attendees gathered to witness performances by more than 20 top DJs and musicians of all genres of dance music.
The Gatecrasher Summer Sound System festival in June 2000 was proclaimed the festival of the year. Shimmering sunshine accompanied the antics of 25,000 attendees as they enjoyed the talents of 50 DJs. The same event in 2001 and 2002 attracted over 40,000 people. The festival featured some of the loudest names like the Chemical Brothers, Underworld, Craig David, Miss Teeq, and Faithless.
The "Gatecrasher 2000 Millennium Eve" party took place at the Don Valley Stadium in Sheffield. It is still the most discussed and memorable party in recent years. "The huge venue accommodated a crowd of 25,000 people and felt like a stadium rock concert. The organization, musical accompaniment, and visual effects created an adrenaline-fueled atmosphere and a night to remember," says Gatecrasher director Simon Raine. "The New Year’s party of 2000 marked ten years of organizing parties, ten years of accumulated knowledge, and ten years of contacts. All were put into one very special night."
Thanks to the success and strength of the brand, Gatecrasher entered the CD market in August 1998 with a series of albums released on Sony Records: Black, Red, Wet, Disco-tech, Global Sound System, and National Anthems.
In 2001, its own record label, Gatecrasher, was launched. The first album "Digital" was released in October and achieved Silver Disc status in the UK within the first 10 days and Gold status in Australia in the first week. All albums contain a 20-page booklet for clubbers and were available in limited edition triple vinyl and distributed worldwide. Gatecrasher compilations inspire the dancefloor and do not rely on big-name DJs to ensure publicity or sales.
By this time, 11 albums had been released with total sales of over 1 million copies.
Gatecrasher is consistently pushing the boundaries of its activities and introducing new technologies to club culture, conducting live Internet broadcasts of events and using the most modern equipment. Since 2001, Gatecrasher has organized monthly live broadcasts.
The club's website, Gatecrasher.com, recognized as the "Best Website" by readers of Ministry Magazine Awards, continues to develop and expand. The average number of visitors reaches 5 million per month. Further developments for the site include such additions as flight schedules, travel tours, wallpapers and ringtones for mobile phones, games, music, banking services, music reviews, mailing addresses, etc.
In 2003, Gatecrasher undertook an ambitious World Tour, which included the Miami Winter Music Conference, Finland, Australia, Korea, Singapore, Hong Kong, South Africa, Japan, as well as a full season in Ibiza at the Eden and Space clubs. Gatecrasher ventured into the challenging territory of North America for success. Currently, Gatecrasher has a monthly residency at the famed Limelight in New York, in the cosmopolitan Space in Miami, and the underground Turbo in Toronto.
Last year, Gatecrasher events attracted over 1.2 million people.
In 2003, Gatecrasher resumed tours across the UK and worldwide, organizing unforgettable parties from Birmingham, Glasgow, and Cardiff to Hong Kong, Sydney, and New York. Other new areas of development in 2003 included the first 8-hour live television broadcast from the club on Sky Digital TV and promoting their brand on television, radio, and in the press.
In summer, The Republic club underwent a £1.5 million rebranding. The club reopened in September under the new name Gatecrasher One. This club is the first of 10 that are planned to open across the UK shortly. The expansion of the club network will be completed by the end of 2005. The world-famous Gatecrasher Trance nights will now operate under the new name - Crasher.
Tours and major events will continue in major cities worldwide and in the UK throughout 2004 and beyond.
