Giles Smith - Best New DJ

Giles Smith has been buying vinyl for 10 years and has been DJing for 5 of them. Music has always been his passion, and DJing turned out to be the best excuse for countless hours spent in record shops. He was strongly influenced by musicians like Knuckles, Morales, Humphries, and MAW. After enrolling at the University of Leeds, Giles attended performances by Doc Marten, Francois K, and Ralph Lawson, which solidified what he wanted to pursue.
After moving to London post-graduation, Giles quickly earned the opportunity to become a resident at the "Faith" club, playing alongside masters like Terry Farley, Stuart Patterson, and Bill Brewster. However, it was his own parties "Secretsundaze," which took place outdoors every summer, that brought him fame, along with the "All Over My Face" nights. In just three years, "Secretsundaze" became a legend on the London dance scene, partly due to DJs like Mr C (The End), Craig Richards (Fabric), and Ivan Smagghe (Blackstrobe) playing at them.
Giles became one of the most sought-after young DJs in London and began receiving invitations from the best clubs - the underground ones like "The Key," "Herbal," "Plastic People," "93 Feet East," and "333," as well as larger venues like "The End," "Turnmills," "Ministry of Sound," and "Pacha."
In a review by Time Out magazine in 2003, Giles was named the best young DJ ("Best New DJ"). In February 2004, his own radio show "The New Funk Theory" launched on www.ministryofsound.com.
Giles's style can be described as European house with a new wave twist, leaning towards deep and even techno. He is currently working on releases slated for this summer and fall.
