DJ Mag Poll

This story repeats every year – crowds of advocates for 'real music' express protests and go on strike against the most authoritative and massive ranking in the world of dance music – the DJ Mag poll. Some doubt the competence of two hundred thousand voters, some don't understand how and why Paul van Dyk, who plays from just two turntables, is ranked higher than DJ MegaMixMaster from Uryupinsk, who uses 6 players, a gramophone, two accordions, and sings arias from Italian operas. However, despite all the grumbling, both sides will vote for their favorite artists and eagerly await the results. And when they receive them, they will sigh disappointedly again and hate all these rankings even more. Therefore, the DJ Mag ranking should be treated with skepticism, but underestimating it would be foolish – if in 2006, 217,102 people from 229 countries voted (for comparison – in 2005, there were only 93,057), this year the half-million mark could easily be surpassed.
