Guest of Shanti Friday - Aril Brikha

Aril Brikha is a Swedish producer of Iranian descent, a unique artist who managed to blend seemingly incompatible styles in his music, such as jazzy house, minimalist Detroit techno, and experimental electronics. From an early age, Brikha demonstrated musical abilities. At seven, his father, a pianist, gave him a piano and taught him how to play, allowing Aril to freely pick up music by ear. As a teenager, Aril was heavily influenced by musicians like Depeche Mode, Front 242, and Jean-Michel Jarre. He then began experimenting with a sequencer and composed his first music at the age of 16. Friends said his material most closely resembled Detroit techno. While the Swedish techno scene leaned towards minimalism and loops, Brikha created vibrant, emotional electronic music that no one wanted to listen to. After releasing several records on Swedish labels such as Plump, Dunkla, and Placktown Sounds, Aril sent his recordings to the prestigious Detroit label Transmat Records, owned by techno legend Derrick May. Aril was immediately noticed, and in 1998, his EP 'The Art of Vengeance' was released on Fragile, a division of Transmat. The single 'Groove la Chord' on the EP brought Aril international recognition. No one could precisely determine what it was – techno? House? Deep house? 'Groove la Chord' was timeless music. In 1999, his debut album 'Deeparture in Time' was released on Transmat. Since then, Brikha, recognized as a rising star of deep techno, has toured extensively. He is listened to all over the world – from London to Singapore. Now Aril Brikha will perform in Moscow as well: on Friday, November 11, at Shanti.
