Joel Mull. More Than a Party!

"Joel Mull belongs to the type of shy and introverted musicians who prefer to achieve everything quietly." This is how Joel writes about himself on his website. "You won't hear that he released countless solo albums or that he played a 10-hour set," Mull continues, "He doesn’t pay much attention to critics, and his name is not yet associated with techno as, say, it is associated with Jeff Mills. But those who have heard live performances by Mull could appreciate the quality of this Swede's music." In fact, Joel is not a quiet type at all; he is a legendary techno producer, one of the three founding fathers of the so-called "Swedish techno sound" (the other two "fathers" are Cari Lekebusch and Adam Beyer).
Joel was born in Stockholm in 1975, was a fan of Kraftwerk and Depeche Mode in school, and in the early 90s bought his first turntables and mixer but only seriously got into DJing in 1995, releasing a couple of vinyl records on the Loop label. At that time, Mull was quite prolific: after the first vinyl came the second, third, tenth; he experimented with styles (freaky house, tech-house, techno, deep techno) and labels (Drumcode, CodeRed, Jericho, Primevil, Svek), until finally, he matured to his own. In 1997, Mull created Inside Records - as he himself says, in order to "try to publish music that I could work on myself... that I could control." With the label, Joel succeeded. Inside Records began to consistently release, as music critics write, "great dance techno straight from Stockholm studio." "Now that techno is very popular, the label brings in decent profits," adds Joel. In parallel, the Swede got involved with the Safety Session project along with the already mentioned Adam Beyer, and in March of this year released the vinyl "Reminder" on the very trendy and influential German techno label Kanzleramt. "Joel is a very modern musician with extraordinary skills and a good ear," writes Kanzleramt's website - "He has already traveled the entire globe with live and DJ performances. And he has become an artist who definitely deserves attention." It is worth adding that at the "Gorod" club, there will be the first performance of this talented Swede in Russia.
