XIII presents a unique performance in Moscow by the star of the Subliminal label, loyal associate of the legendary Eric Morillo, Jose Nunez.
Latin American macho Jose Nunez grew up in New Jersey. His parents performed in a small jazz band in New York clubs, and everyone predicted little Jose would follow in their footsteps. However, his father prepared his son for a completely different career. In his dreams, Nunez Sr. saw Jose as a professional baseball player. For a long time, the boy justified these hopes, successfully defending the honor of a local Major League baseball team. However, the inevitable soon happened.
Early disco from Donna Summer, street hip-hop, and the timeless hits of James Brown did their job. The baseball bat was replaced with old Technics turntables, and Jose Nunez began a new life. He spent days in the New York Center of Media Arts studio, where he was trained in sound engineering and sound producing.
"The course of a young fighter" took almost half a year; during that time, Jose managed to fall out with his girlfriend and a good half of his old friends, but the result was worth it. The knowledge gained was put to use during the recording of the first single Move It by the group Reel 2 Real with young frontman Eric Morillo.
The creative alliance with Morillo developed rapidly. The Dronez, Pianoheadz, Constipated Monkey's – these are just a part of the names of the collectives in which the friends took an active role. With their help, remixes of "Don't Call Me Baby" by Madison Avenue, "Life" by Bob Sinclar, and "Slow Dancing Dr. Love" hit dance floors worldwide.
Since the establishment of Subliminal Records, the leading house label in the USA, Jose Nunez has been one of the leading players in Eric Morillo's team, performing with him at almost all Subliminal parties in various parts of the world. Today, his name has become synonymous with American funky house, a special style propagated by Subliminal Records.
