Film Screenings at Sonar 2010

At the Spanish Sonar 2010 festival, taking place from June 17 to 19 in Barcelona and La Coruña, special attention this year, after music, will be dedicated to cinema. A total of five films somehow related to the music scene will be screened in the two cities during the event. In Barcelona, the film program includes: Amplified Gesture; Synth Britannia, exploring the emergence of the synth-pop genre in Great Britain; two films commemorating the 20th anniversary of the Warp label; as well as a film about the unusual Scandinavian music phenomenon known as Skweee - We Call It Skweee. In La Coruña, the audience will be introduced to the main official festival film Finisterrae; the documentary Sonar Around The World; as well as Amplified Gesture and Synth Britannia.

Synth Britannia (director - Ben Whalley, specially for BBC) - a journey through modern music history of Great Britain, starting from the late 1970s - the time of the emergence of synth-pop. The main characters are Depeche Mode, The Human League, Daniel Miller, OMD...

Amplified Gesture (director - Phil Hopkins) - the film was conceived as an audio-visual response to the latest album by British musician David Sylvian - Manafon. The art of improvisation and its main characters: Evan Parker, Keith Rowe, Christian Fennesz, Otomo Yoshihide...

Warp20 - And Thee Echo (director - Vincent Moon) and Warp20 - NYC (director - Lorenzo Fonda) - two different works on the same theme - celebrating the anniversary of one of the most successful music labels. The first documentary was filmed in London, featuring: Mira Calix, Broadcast, Battles. The second - in New York with Flying Lotus and Jamie Lidell.

We Call It Skweee - skweee - a genre that emerged in Sweden and Finland, something 'between electronic and synthetic funk with an acidic touch'. Italian director Lacopo Patierno decided to delve into the essence of the movement, following its members from their studios in northern Europe to the Sonar 2008 festival.

Finisterrae (director - Sergio Caballero) - the main visual of this year's festival. An atypical story for modern cinema, permeated with a specific sense of humor, about two ghosts trying to get out of limbo after Sonar 2009 and reach the end of the world.

Sonar Around The World (directors - Josep Maria Salat and Jofre Font) - documentary footage from the Sonar 2006 festival in different cities around the world: Barcelona, Buenos Aires, Tokyo, and Seoul.
