Frederick Beigbeder's oxygen party

On July 1 in Moscow, in Arkady Novikov's Black October club, which has not yet opened, TimeOut magazine, together with the Prana company, will hold a party where the French writer, bon vivant and glamor ideologist Frederic Beigbeder will perform as a disc jockey. Having learned about TimeOut's offer to play at the party, Fred was very happy, asked to host it in the most luxurious place in the city and promised to bring all his favorite records. Little is known about Frederic's DJ hobby. You can judge his passion for pop music from his books, where he sprinkles misanthropic quotes from songs everywhere. It is known that Fred periodically takes over the DJ console at Parisian bohemian events, but he plays, first of all, for himself and his friends. Two years ago, his compilation “Bande originale de ma jeunesse” was released with music from the “new wave” era - from The Flying Lizards to Visage and The Buggles. Again, one can only assume that Beigbeder’s hobbies range from disco to post-punk. However, we don't make any guesses or guesses about his DJ style, and prefer to find out what "DJ Frederic Beigbeder" is right at the party on July 1st.
For the capital, which accepted the book “99 Francs” as the Bible, completely shared its value system and gave birth to its own, “Moscow Begbederians” (Sergey Minaev, Vladimir Spektr and Oksana Robski), a party with DJ Frederic is completely unique. No Frenchman has had such an influence on the consciousness of Russian high society since the time of Voltaire, and there has never been a writer whose worldview was completely shaped by pop music. After all, the ideas that Frederick expresses, his cynicism and morbid moralizing are more likely to find parallels in the texts of Marilyn Manson, Jarvis Cocker and Morrisey than in the books of philosophers and psychiatrists. Moreover, music - from the “smart” songs of the LCD Soundsystem group to the stupid “umts-umts-umts” that accompanies fashion shows and gatherings in fashionable cafes - is an indispensable sound background in which Beigbeder and his Moscow followers exist.
In the nightlife of our city, the role of DJs is declining. Against this background, the French writer’s DJ set is not just an international celebrity phenomenon. This is a triumphant meeting of the capital's jet-setters with their hero, who will really be listened to and already obeyed. Finally, the target audience meets their target. The magazine TimeOut, which is democratic in its essence, appears here in the unusual capacity of the organizer of an extremely glamorous event, whose pathos is conceptually justified and played out. Its co-organizer and co-author, the Kislorod by Prana brand, is no stranger to the ethics and aesthetics of Begbederianism. Prana realized the cherished dream of the characters in “99 Francs” and “Duhless” – to sell air. However, unlike the parasites from the books of Begbeder and Minaev, who only chase secretaries around the offices, Prana produces healthy and necessary air. You can inhale it at Frederic Beigbeder’s Kislorod party.
