The phenomenon of this small but very fashionable label began with Wolfgang Voigt (Mike Ink.) spreading word of the 'Cologne sound,' the emergence of a new sound incorporating all the best directions of techno music with a new rhythm called schaffel. It was a brilliant marketing move, but behind all the PR tricks were truly talented musicians. Today, this sound has become a legend, a brand, a mark, and simply a techno label in the form of Kompakt.
