On Wednesday, as part of the project 'Minimal for Lonely Men,' Shanti will be visited by Krikor. French artist Krikor Kouchian, a significant figure in the Parisian electronic scene, began experimenting with a sampler in 1995 while studying sound engineering. By that time, he was already adept at playing the bass guitar and was infusing elements of funk into his minimalist electronic music. In 1997, Krikor moved from his hometown of Valence to Paris, where he founded the label Root Down. His remix of Gainsbourg's 'Love on the Beat' released on this label gained him fame. In Paris, he also gained recognition as a DJ, known for his eclectic sets at La Scene and Rex Club. Collaborating with French minimal-electronic musician Ark, their joint records under KrikArk were released on the Karat label. Krikor's favorite music genres are minimalist techno and tech-house with concentrated basslines. His eclectic music always carries a deeply masked satire, poking fun at disco, old-school techno, IDM, and clicks 'n' cuts. Microscopic elements from various styles blend in his compositions, always maintaining a careful balance resulting in contradictory, dynamic, and entertaining music.
On Friday, Shanti will host another interesting guest - Wouter Hisschemoller - a producer from Amsterdam. Initially playing bass and tenor saxophone in various bands, Wouter developed an interest in electronic music in the late 90s. The talented Dutch artist was mentored by the famous French musician Tahiti, who believed that music should be complemented with visual artistry and founded the Lumina label. Currently, Wouter Hisschemoller releases music on Lumina's sub-label Eona and is one of the organizers of a dance show on Amsterdam's Radio-Activity, where guest DJs are regularly invited. Hisschemoller's music is a beautiful atmospheric deep house, incorporating deep, rich basslines intricately blended with elements of techno and acid.
