Legendary Malcolm McLaren in Moscow
Клубные российские · 09.12.2006
Without Malcolm McLaren, the contemporary music scene would be different. The scandalous generator of art projects that always shocked society and anticipated the era, the brilliant producer and cynical musician, the provocative stylist and fashion designer, and a legend of the bohemian Olympus. The creator, producer, and director of Sex Pistols, the legal father of punk, manager of The New York Dolls who dressed the band in corduroy clothes with Soviet symbols, is also considered the parent of glam-punk aesthetics along with his ex-wife Vivienne Westwood. McLaren started recording his own albums in the early 80s. His incomparable sense of style and synoptic intuition as an eternal innovator are the main instruments of his eclectic music, which has nothing to do with punk. Melodic compositions full of subtle irony encompass jazz, ethnic music, French chanson (rather caustic pamphlet about it), and McLaren's hypnotic voice. The album 'Paris,' beloved by many, features Catherine Deneuve and François Hardy. Apart from 11 albums, McLaren's compositions are included in soundtracks of several films, the latest being Kill Bill-1, where Quentin Tarantino chose McLaren's song 'About Her' for its context of subtle sarcasm. McLaren's resume also includes the musical jingle 'Aria on Air,' which became the basis for branding and face of British Airways. Malcolm McLaren will visit Moscow for the first time with his unique multimedia video/DJ show. The performance on December 14 at Club 'B1 Maximum' is truly a special and exclusive event. The musical repertoire will feature McLaren's own compositions as well as dance remix allusions to hits of artists he worked with: New York Dolls, The Sex Pistols, Bow Wow Wow, Adam & the Ants, Boy George. Visual additions will include an original video performance, graphic images, and animation illustrating McLaren's stellar biography and the history of musical culture over the past 30 years. These video materials will be shown in Russia for the first time, with most of them having been shown to a wide audience only once or twice. We will see early 80s fashion shows created by the McLaren-Westwood duo exclusively in video recordings, few of which were rarely seen by anyone, such as: video demonstration of Sid Vicious singing 'My Way,' Bow Wow Wow performing 'Go Wild in the Country,' and McLaren singing with Uma Thurman, Catherine Deneuve - the rest is a surprise.
