In 2002, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) declared March 9th as International DJ Day. The holiday was established primarily for charitable purposes. On this day, the World DJ Day Foundation and the Nordoff Robbins Music Therapy organization, which uses music to treat children and adults, hold special events in developing countries with DJs and musicians. The proceeds from these events are donated to various children's funds and institutions. The celebration of this holiday is particularly grand in England. The first major event of this kind took place in London, raising over a million dollars. However, this event was the first and last organized on such a scale.
