International Festival of Contemporary Music and Media Art MIGZ 2011

In September 2011, the IV International Festival of Contemporary Music and Media Art MIGZ will take place in Moscow. The main goal set by the organizers of the festival is to synthesize current music and media art in a unified space, demonstrating the inseparable connection of these forms of art in the 21st century. The festival aims to reveal a wide range of possibilities for self-expression by contemporary artists through the use of cutting-edge technologies. Formed in 2008, the festival continues to develop its innovative direction, expanding its boundaries. In 2011, MIGZ is preparing a series of diverse art events united by a high-tech approach. Besides electronic music, special attention this year will be given to motion design - graphic design in motion, and video mapping - the technology of projecting video images onto large objects and complex surfaces. The festival program is planned for two weeks - from September 4 to 18. Each weekend will be a thematically significant part of the overall event with musical, popular science, educational, and exhibition events, as well as concerts and parties. Over the course of its existence, the festival has expanded not only in temporal space but also territorially, with MIGZ venues scattered throughout Moscow. However, the central location for all events will remain the territory of the 'Red October' factory. On September 4, Moscow City Day, the MIGZ-2011 festival will open in Gorky Park. The next weekend, dedicated to video mapping, will be held there on September 9 and 10. The culmination of the festival will be the third weekend, which will take place at the 'Red October' territory on September 16, 17, and 18. The program will include MIGZ AIR and CUBE - vibrant music performances and multimedia performances, MIGZ MOTION - screening of current films and video works by artists, MIGZ CLASS - applied lectures for the audience, MIGZ PRO - the 'Creative Connections' conference, gadget exhibition, and much more. MIGZ festival brings together enthusiasts and professionals of modern art, providing fans with the opportunity to get closer to culture, hear fresh music, and express themselves in creative labs, while professionals can exchange new ideas, share experiences with a wide audience, and demonstrate the possibilities and prospects of art industry development. This year, MIGZ has acquired a specific theme, reflecting the festival's movement towards the Western art biennale format, which are always united by a certain leitmotif. The theme of MIGZ-2011 is 'refractions' in the broadest sense of the word: from the diffusion of light and sound - a motif often used in video art, to the refraction of ideas and their implementation in a new, unexpected interpretation. The festival will feature over 30 representatives of experimental art from around the world: musicians, artists, media artists, and specialists in new professions whose names have not yet solidified. The festival's line-up will be formed and published at the end of August on the official website.
